Lake Atitlan

Lake Atitlan was formed by a volcanic eruption 
more than 85 thousand years ago.
 
  


Lake Atitlan is at an elevation of 4,265 ft. and is over 
1200 ft. deep.The lake is 11 miles long by 8 miles wide
 and covers an area of over 51 square miles .

Panahachel, the largest city along the lake, is situated
 on the north shore.  It is behind the tree at the right
 edge in the picture above.


Santa Cruz La Laguna is a small town nestled
 on the side of the mountain.
