SV Karina D, SV Desiderata, & SV Shilo

Here are pictures of the three sailboats on their transit through the Miraflores Locks
from Balboa to the Pedro Miguel Boat Club. Most of the line handlers are other cruisers
that help out for the experience
.

This is a view of SV Karina D entering Miraflores Locks along with the Tour Boat Fantaseas del Mar and a Canal Tug. After the tug tied to the lock wall, Karina D tied to the tug. Heather K. tied to Fantaseas del Mar after she tied to the lockwall. Thus, only the tug and Fantaseas del Mar would have to haul in lines as the water level rose in the locks.
SV Karina D. tied to a tug near the exit gate of the second of the Miraflores Locks. The Pedro Miguel Locks can be seen in the distance across Lake Miraflores.
The linehandlers helping out on SV Karina D while she is tied alongside the tug in Miraflores Locks. From front to back: Nicole (SV Caracolita) and Sonja (SV Shilo). Standing in the cockpit is the Panama Canal Advisor for the transit. MV Heather K.can be seen in the background as we are moving into position to tie against the tour boat on the lock wall.
A web camera at the Miraflores Locks shows real-time pictures of vessels transiting at www.pancanal.com. Here we see a time stamped picture of SV Karina D as she is moving away from the tug. The lock gate is not quite open, but the skipper, Dalimas (the name given to Dale Moore in Costa Rica), appears to be anxious to reach Pedro Miguel Boat Club.

The foredeck linehandlers on SV Desiderata. Note the dark clouds which later gave us a slight sprinkle but no downpour. We coming down the channel from the the Bridge of the Americas and heading for the Miraflores Locks. We have just passed Titan, one of the world largest heavy-lift cranes. It is used in various capacities in the Canal.

The captain of SV Desiderata giving a stern lecture to the culinary chefs on what he's expecting from them. They responded with a gourmet breakfast. Left to right: Bob (SV Amazing Grace), the Canal Advisor, Captain Ward, Norma (MV Heather K.), Judy (SV Amazing Grace), and Audrey (First Mate, SV Desiderata). Ed (MV Heather K.) who took the picture was one of the line handlers.
SV Shilo as she was coming in to the Pedro Miguel Boat Club. She is dwarfed by the grey ship that went through the Miraflores Locks with her.
The crew and linehandlers on SV Shilo after transiting the Miraflores and arriving at the Pedro Miguel Boat Club. First row, left to right: Kathleen (SV Karina D), Sonja (First Mate, SV Shilo), Harry (Captain, SV Shilo), and Bob (SV Amazing Grace). Back row, left to right: Bob (SV On the Way), and Dalimas (AKA Dale Moore, SV Karina D). Sorry Harry and Sonja, I forgot the name of the Admiral in Harry's arms.
These are the Pedro Miguel Locks with the Pedro Miguel Boat Club just to their right in this picture. Each of the locks has two side-by-side chambers allowing two vessels to transit at the same time. Due to single file lanes through the Gaillard Cut, the traffic pattern is generally for batches of ships to transit the locks in the same direction in both chambers.
